Provost Shrivastav and United Way supporters commemorated the start of the annual IU-United Way fundraising campaign on September 28. Each year, IU Bloomington staff and faculty come together to support United Way and make lasting change in our community.
This year, there are over 70 volunteers helping the IU Bloomington campus reach its fundraising goal of $710,000 to United Way of South Central Indiana. Kirk White, Vice Provost for External Relations-Bloomington and Assistant Vice President of Strategic Partnerships serves as the Campus Campaign Manager. This year, we welcome Dean David Daleke and Dean Anastasia Morrone as the 2023 Campaign Co-Chairs.
Nearly half of households in south central Indiana are in, or one emergency away from, poverty -- including 30% of households with children and 43% of senior (65+) households. Living paycheck to paycheck while hovering at or falling below the poverty line is the reality for more than 45,000 families in Monroe, Owen, Greene, Brown, Lawrence, and Orange counties.
“Through participation in the IU-United Way of South Central Indiana annual giving program, our faculty and staff can help change our neighbors’ lives and build stronger communities for a more resilient future,” said Provost Shrivastav.
Last year, the IU Bloomington campaign raised 69% of the total United Way fund drive, amounting to over $766,000.
"The generosity of IU faculty, staff, and retirees continues to make an incredible impact in our community, and the need has never been greater. Your support will help us move families from poverty to possibility," said Randy Rogers, President & CEO of United Way of South Central Indiana.
Faculty and staff can donate online with e-Pledge through a one-time donation or payroll deduction by December 13.
