Make change happen as part of United Way

If you’re interested in helping Indiana University raise money for United Way, we’d be glad to have your help. There are several ways you can get involved.

Become a Campaign Ambassador

The IU United Way campaign wouldn't be possible without your help! As a campaign ambassador, you will help United Way connect with departments on campus and spread the word about the campaign. Here is a description of what that will entail: 

Dates Active: September 14, 2026 – December 15, 2026 

Responsibilities: 

• Communicate with colleagues about the details and priorities of the IU Employee Giving Campaign 

• Encourage donations and participation in United Way volunteering opportunities 

• Check in with IU Bloomington United Way Campaign Coordinator once per month via email with the subject “UWSCI Ambassador Update” about actions taken to support the Employee Giving Campaign 

• Attend one in-person meeting after the conclusion of the Employee Giving Campaign to compare strategies with other ambassadors 

Priorities to Promote: 

• Payroll Deduction: a simple and effective option that makes donating easy and customizable. *Note: payroll deduction is only available for FULL-TIME employees. 

• Taxable income reduction: Donating to a non-profit organization such as United Way allows you to deduct from your taxable income.  

• Services Used by Indiana University Employees and Their Children: Many Indiana University employees use a service supported by United Way, perhaps, without realizing. United Way supports Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana, Boy Scouts – Hoosier Trails Council, Girl Scouts of Central Indiana, Boys and Girls Clubs of Bloomington, and many more you can find here.

• Hand-written “thank you” cards to anyone you have gotten to donate 

• Content library to consult for communications with colleagues. 

If you are interested in becoming a campaign ambassador, please email the campaign coordinator at ebrasel@iu.edu with your department, job title, and a short paragraph about why you want to help lead this campaign. If selected to participate, the campaign coordinator will share next steps shortly thereafter.

Volunteer with United Way

Volunteer your time and talents to help the community! The hundreds of  opportunities include community tax preparation, hosting a fundraising event, sorting donated books, and packing baby materials for new moms.
